An Ode to Christmas

leave a comment »

‘Twas a few days before Christmas

And all through the land

Holiday music was playing

Via radio or live band

The halls are not decked

No freaky elf on the shelf

Just me waiting for the Big Man,

Not Clarence, but Santa Claus, himself

I didn’t decorate this year

No lights red, green or bluish

It’s just that I’m lazy

Not that I’m Jewish

Since Santa’s a bit heavy

A change might be nice

Instead of cookies and milk

He’ll get steamed veggies and brown rice

The presents are wrapped

All with bows and stuff

Hopefully next month’s bills

Won’t be too rough

I sent my cards

To family and friends

This Florida weather is great

I hope it never ends

I’ll finish up now

I have a few things left to do

Merry Christmas to all

God bless most of you

Tunnel of Love

leave a comment »

Fat man sitting on a little stool
Takes the money from my hand while his eyes take a walk all over you
Hands me the ticket smiles and whispers good luck
Cuddle up angel cuddle up my little dove
We’ll ride down baby into this tunnel of love

I can feel the soft silk of your blouse
And them soft thrills in our little fun house
Then the lights go out and it’s just the three of us
You me and all that stuff we’re so scared of
Gotta ride down baby into this tunnel of love

There’s a crazy mirror showing us both in 5-D
I’m laughing at you you’re laughing at me
There’s a room of shadows that gets so dark brother
It’s easy for two people to lose each other in this tunnel of love

It ought to be easy ought to be simple enough
Man meets woman and they fall in love
But the house is haunted and the ride gets rough
And you’ve got to learn to live with what you can’t rise above                                                                             If you want to ride on down in through this tunnel of love

The Airport

The jet engines roar, the plane blasts through the air

Taking its passengers only they know where

I don’t care the destination, doggone it

I just want to board that flight and fly off on it

Long faces in longer traffic lines

The radio DJ’s mindless chit-chat

Thinking of her, still in bed

It’s Monday

Anclote Key

The breeze blows in our faces

As the boat cuts through the Gulf

A dolphin’s fin breaks the surface

Attracted to the hum of the engines

The sun is warm against our skin

As the aroma of coconut wafts by

The water is cool but not cold

Friends laugh and joke

As kids and dogs frolic on the beach

Sunscreen and cocktails, surf and sand

Welcome to Anclote Key

Déjà Vu or Something Else?

leave a comment »

If history was a mystery,

What would you do?

If the past was the future,

Would everything be new?

Are we all born again,

Or born not yet?

Were you and I together,

Or have we not even met?

Would I need a time machine,

To keep our first date?

Do I travel forward or back,

Would I be early or late?

If time flowed in a loop,

How would we move forward?

What would we have,

To cast our hearts toward?

If history was a mystery,

What would we do?

If our past was our future,

Would I still be with you?

Begin As You Mean To Go On

She stood there, smiling

He stood there, anxious

She recognized him immediately

They hugged, greeted each other

Her sweet, delicate perfume tantalized him

He drew in a deep breath

Held it in his lungs,

Filled himself with her scent

The music played, too loudly to speak

They found a table in the back

She had such beautiful brown eyes

An impossibly radiant smile

And a waterfall of chestnut curls

Cascading over delicate features

Her comely, demure nature

Pulled him in,

Heightened his desire for her

An occasional, gentle touch

Set his body abuzz with excitement

He wanted more

They talked through the night

It was easy, effortless

Like they had known each other

For weeks, months even

They walked to her car

Talked a bit more,

And shared a goodnight hug

He held her as long as he dared

The night ended far too soon

She left him with a memory

And hope
